"D" is for Dark Knight

I always thought that the Joker looked the best/scariest when he was seen through glass and the only details you can really make out are his dark eyes and red scar smile. One of the movie posters showed him writing "Why so serious?" where you get this effect. In the film itself there's a quick moment as he's leaving the meeting with all the mobsters (you know, the magic pencil trick scene) where he kicks the door open behind him to leave and as it swings shut you get a glimpse of the Joker behind frosted glass and the smile and the eyes are the only thing that you can really make out. Very cool look. Thought I'd try for that here.

"C" is for Casino Royale

One of my favorite Bond films. This one has more than just exotic locales and great action sequences, there's a bit of great acting too!

I thought it would be fun to make a "favorite movie alphabet", with a different movie for each letter. I'm still torn on what film to do for "A", so I started with B. After all, they're on a mission from God.

Here it is, the teapot assignment. Obviously there's a lot to fix and I need to learn to do shading and lighting better, but it was fun.

Thanksgiving Race

I forget how it came up, but my cousin Jill and I got into an argument about who would win in a race. (I would) and somehow the rest of the family heard about it and so Thanksgiving morning while Liz and I are in Indy we're having a race right on Crowder road! It'll be a 40-yard dash. May the best ME win!

I think I'm going to have a cape for the race, possibly a Luchador mask.

Well, I'm turning in my application today, hopefully all the hard work will pay off. You'd think drawing for over three hours a day, if not for 7+ hours a day would help. I showed my latest figure drawings to a few friends who were in figure drawing classes with me last year and one commented, "woah, you've taken it up a notch!" i said, "YEAH..." I'll post what i submitted after i get it back, hopefully i get it back with good news!!!

I have until April to get into the animation program. I am going to sit in on all the drawing classes there are, take my sketchbook everywhere, do exercises from Bridgeman's anatomy books and "How to draw comics the Marvel way" in my 'free' time and pray a whole lot that i get in. That is how you improve, right? to learn how to draw, you draw draw draw. i'm going to live breathe eat sleep drawing.

If this doesn't work, than nothing will. more posts of my progress to follow

here are a few pages from my current sketchbook, these are all gestures, two minutes or less. I'm still learning how to use the pen and marker, it has helped me to make stronger lines in my drawings. That's what I've been focusing on lately is making strong lines, when i put one line down i try to stick with it rather than getting too sketchy or noodle-y. yeah, that's a real term. my proportions have improved since the beginning of the semester but are not there yet.

Here is one of the only things from Joe's class I am not ashamed to show. This spider can be found in the Bean Museum. While I was drawing in there, a toddler climbed ON TOP OF the glass case holding this spider and many other interesting bugs- I was so worried the kid would break the case and ruin my subject matter. and possibly hurt himself.
